We design our platform to support teachers, schools, and universities. We do not sell data, and we are committed to following applicable laws, including FERPA, COPPA, and California’s CCPA/SOPIPA.

‍Safeguarding Personal Information
‍We understand that the personal information of students and educators is sensitive and must be protected with care. Our approach is built around preserving the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of any information shared with us.

Our platform is intentionally designed to minimize data collection—we do not require or encourage the submission of personally identifiable student information (PII) to use our services. In addition, we never sell, trade, or monetize personal information in any form.

‍Teacher & Admin Information: Name, email, and account credentials.

• Uploaded Lesson Materials: Lesson plans, curriculum documents, and related instructional content.
• Redacted Student Assessment Data: Only if provided by the district in compliance with FERPA.
• Technical Data: Usage logs, device/browser type, and performance data to improve functionality.

‍We do not collect or store:
• Student names, unique identifiers, or direct student records.
• Biometric or health information.
• Data for advertising or marketing purposes.

‍3. How We Use Information
To provide lesson feedback and curriculum optimization features.
• To support educators with training, technical support, and troubleshooting.
• To improve our services based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns.
• To meet legal and contractual obligations regarding student and educator data privacy.
• We use Google Analytics only with user consent, and analytics scripts are disabled if consent is declined.

‍4. Data Storage & Security
Hosting: Persistent data is stored in Postgres databases hosted on Vercel servers in the United States.
• Encryption: Data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2/1.3) and at rest (AES-256).
• Processing: Some operations may run on Vercel Edge Functions (global secure network) but are always stored in Vercel-hosted databases.
• Subprocessors: Certain features use third-party AI providers (OpenAI, Google) for processing, limited to the minimum necessary data.
• Access Control: Only authorized personnel with role-based permissions and multi-factor authentication have access.

While Sunrise Classroom Inc. is not independently SOC 2 certified, our cloud provider, Vercel holds SOC 2, ISO 27001, and other certifications. We do not claim these certifications as our own but align our practices with their standards and are working toward SOC 2 readiness.

‍5. Data Retention & Deletion
Data is retained only as long as necessary to provide our services.
• Districts and individual users may request deletion of their data at any time.
• All data is deleted at the end of a pilot program, service contract, or upon written request.

‍6. Compliance
‍We are committed to operating in alignment with:
• FERPA: Protecting student education records.
• COPPA: Safeguarding children under 13 (we require district or parent consent if applicable).
• CCPA/SOPIPA: Protecting California student data rights.

These laws do not issue certifications, but we follow their requirements by ensuring education data is not sold, used for advertising, or retained beyond district or user requests.

‍Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to:
• Access the data we hold about you.
• Request corrections or deletion.
• Opt-out of non-essential data processing.
